Harm Minimisation Unit Standards

Teach your Venues How To

  • Approach a player that they have reasonable grounds to believe may be experiencing difficulties related to their gambling; and
  • Provide the player with information about -
    • The characteristic and signs of problem gambling
    • The potential risk and consequences of problem gambling
    • How to access problem gambling service; and
  • Remind the player that –
    • The venue manager may, if he or she believes on reasonable grounds that a person is a problem gambler, ban that person from the gambling area of the venue for up to two years
    • The player can identify himself or herself as a problem gambler and request that the venue exclude them from the gambling area of the venue for up to two years

Salamander Systems (the one-stop-shop) offers a training course that meets the DIA requirements. Your operators will be trained in the skills listed and the training will be specific to their venue (as required by DIA).

We also have available carbonless triplet (venue copy, customer copy and corporate society copy) forms that contain instructions on exclusion procedures etc that come your corporate society logo starting at $10.00 plus GST per booklet (10 forms in a book, colour front page and black and white forms).

We also offer virtual training packages from $350.00 per venue for single Society venues (discounts for Societies with more than one venue), this package allows venue personel to teach themselves and then obtain the credits by attending an hour test session. Gaming Operations Unit Standards

8 Unit Standards – 32 Credits Level 3 and 4

½ DAY, ONE DAY, OR TWO DAY OPTIONS

Course includes the following:

  • Maintain and care for gaming machine hardware and gaming machine environment
  • Control money and handle cash in a gaming machine environment – ASSISTANCE WITH CASH FLOAT AND HOPPER FLOAT BALANCING
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and produce a Weekly Gaming Machine Profit Return and Gaming Machine Analysis
  • Provide gaming machine information to Players
  • Deal with Player disputes in gaming machine areas
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legislation, licence conditions, and taxation related to gaming machines
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and supervise jackpot systems for gaming machines
  • Knowledge & Objectives of the Gambling Act 2003
  • Daily Operations of your gaming machines
  • Responsibilities under the Gambling Act 2003
  • Responsibilities for Compliance

LCQ (unit standards 4646, 16705), one day course

General Managers course Includes HSI accreditation and certificate, course material and NZQA Hook on Fee.

  • Be a responsible host
  • This qualification has been developed by the Hospitality Standard Institute (HSI) to improve the quality & skills of Bar Managers in licensed premises.
    The programme at Workforce is both fun & creative in a positive training environment ensuring you will be a responsible host.
  • The LCQ training course is part one to obtaining your Bar Managers’ Certificate.  Once you successfully completed this programme, you will need to apply for the LCQ certificate with your own local Council.  This may involve a further interview and/or assessment and additional cost, not included in this course.
  • The LCQ was developed by the hospitality industry to improve the quality & skills of managers of licensed premises.
  • Includes NZQA units:
    • 4646 Knowledge of Sale of Liquor Act & the implications on licensed premise operations
    • 16705 Knowledge of Host Responsibility requirements as a liquor licence controller

LCQ Transitions , three hour course. From $60.00 plus GST and includes, HSI accreditation and certificate, course material . NZQA Hook on Fee $25.00 including GST if candidate is not already hooked to the framework

      • From the 1st April 2006 all holders of a current Bar Managers Certificate will need to hold the new Licence Controller Qualification (LCQ). 
      • To enable existing Bar Managers Certificate holders to meet the new requirements and gain the LCQ, Workforce is offering a two hour ‘refresher’ workshop.  Upon completion of the workshop participants are able to sit the LCQ ‘transition’ test.
      • Once you successfully completed this programme, you will need to apply for the LCQ certificate with your own local Council.  This may involve a further interview and/or assessment and additional cost, not included in this course.
      • You will be covering aspects of Host Responsibility and knowledge of the Sale of Liquor Act and its amendments.  Following the two hour ‘refresher’ workshop participants will sit the Hospitality Standard Institute  ‘transition test’ (approx one hour).  The transition test consists of multi-choice, yes/no and short answer questions.

Expression of Interest for training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint Email, Internet and Access etc, are now being received. Salamander can if the demand is there develop classroom or correspondence based training in these areas. Call us for more information
